Long Awaited Sonic Ft. Lauderdale Beach sets August 2011 opening.

We've been reporting on the new Sonic Ft. Lauderdale Beach for years now. Well, I am receiving reports that they are shooting for an August 2011 opening. Homestead got Miami-Dade/Broward's first Sonic last week and now Ft. Lauderdale will join the list. The company bringing the Sonic brand to South Florida is putting its own spin on things. The logo is a bit different with the 'o' in Sonic replaced by a Beach Ball. There are LCD TV's at the Homestead location for those dining on the patio and you can also order beer and wine.

The Sonic Ft. Lauderdale Beach location is inside the Beach Place Entertainment complex and will overlook A1A and the famous Ft. Lauderdale Beach. You will be able to place your order downstairs at a kiosk which I guess is the only form of a 'drive-in' they can pull off at this location. They will also be serving beer and wine at this Sonic location. I can bet that this location will be quite busy…since Sonic has many fans and there are no other restaurants in Broward (yet). It's a great fit. Sip on a cold beer and get your Sonic fix while hanging at the beach. This is also great news for those looking for lower cost breakfast and lunch/dinner options on the beach.

I'm hoping they are able to stick to the August 2011 opening time frame…we've waited long enough for our Sonic!

Oh…I'm also hearing that the franchisee is looking at a spot in Lauderhill for a new Sonic restaurant. I'll keep you posted.  That would make 2 Sonic's in Broward.
