FTLToday Quik Bite - Bravo! Gourmet Sandwich, Oakland Park/Wilton Manors
This was our second trip to Bravo! Gourmet Sandwich Shop. It's strange that in the years it's been here I've only been here twice since I basically live 1/2 block away. Bravo! is a Peruvian restaurant with a menu focused on the Peruvian Sandwich. They also have a few 'plated' items, but we stuck to a few appetizers and sandwiches.
From the outside, you might not even realize it's a restaurant. The windows are tinted to only allow you to see from inside the restaurant. Outside passers-by only see a reflective-type window.

The inside of Bravo! is much nicer than it appears on the outside. It's clean, looks fresh and there is a flat screen TV (with CNN on when we were there). There are tables to dine in or you can take out. Either way, you order at the front counter.

(Inside Bravo!)
We ordered the Papa Rellena and the Papa A La Huanciana for our appetizers/sides and the Bravo Steak and Lomo Saltado for our sandwiches. There are quite a few sandwich options so it's hard to make a decision. We didn't go for any sweets on this visit. After paying, we took a seat and wanted for our order. We chose to take our food to go and it took about 15 minutes or so for our food to arrive. Not too bad of a wait.
The Papa A La Huanciana consists of boiled potato, white cheese & Aji Amarillo cream sauce. We were not sure what to expect since we didn't know what the Aji Amarillo sauce was. This appetizer is served 'cold'..which was a bit strange at first. Then once we started eating…it made sense. It was sliced boiled potato with the Aji Ammarillo cream sauce covering the surface. I'm guessing that the white cheese was inside of the sauce, since we didn't see any. The taste was very similar to a potato salad you'd find at any picnic. The sauce is said to have a kick (when you Google Aji Ammarillo), but this had none. It was creamy and like eating a deconstructed potato salad with just potato and dressing. This spud was a dud for us.

On the opposite side of the appetizer spectrum was the Papa Rellena. Per the menu it's a 'Stuffed potato with beef, onions & a criolla sauce. We were wondering what the heck this was going to look like. It almost looked like a golden brown football (not as big as one…but similar in shape). The potato surrounding the stuffing was 'mashed' potato. The whole 'capsule' was then fried. The outer 'shell' was nice and crisp and the inside 'stuffing' (beef, onions and criolla sauce) was quite tasty. Jeff did hit a piece of grizzle but I suppose that can happen. Overall this was a good appetizer choice and would probably order it again.

The sandwiches are served on a soft fresh roll and are a good size. The Bravo Steak sandwich was full of flavor and a total 'comfort' food kind of meal. All of the components went very well together and I wouldn't change a thing. The Bravo Steak sandwich has quite the ingredient list. Beef tenderloin, bacon, egg, cheese, potato sticks and a chimichurri cream sauce. I liked it…(Jeff liked it better than his choice).

(Bravo Steak Sandwich)
The Lomo Saltado sandwich consists of beef tenderloin ,sautéed onions and tomatoes served Peruvian Style. It reminded us of a pot roast sandwich in a way. Everything was mixed together and it was a hearty combination. While we liked it…1/2 a sandwich would have been plenty for us as it only had 'one note'. The Bravo Steak had so many components, it made it much more interesting and ended in a better product. I'm sure if you grew up eating Peruvian food…the Lomo Saltado would remind you of home.

(Lomo Saltado Sandwich)
Overall, Bravo! is a great place to grab a meal. There are plenty of choices and they cook your food when you place your order. Sandwiches run around $6-$7…so it's not a bad value. While you won't get a 'foot-long'…you will get a home-made product with some interesting different flavors.
