FTLToday Quik Bite Roadtrip - Sanibel Island, FL - Over Easy Café.
Our choice for breakfast on our final Morning in Sanibel turned out to be the exact opposite from Lighthouse Café Over Easy Café was what breakfast should be. Fresh, simple (with a twist sometimes) and friendly.

The décor is bright and cheerful and the place is really clean. They also have a lot of outside space on the outside patio. Coffee is served at Over Easy Café in their own custom-made mugs and the orange juice is freshly squeezed. Yes…it really is freshly squeezed…I tried it.

I ordered the Shrimp Omelette and Jeff went for the breakfast special. The special came with 2 eggs, 2 pieces of bacon and coconut French toast. My omelette came with potatoes and toast. When I placed the order for the Shrimp omelette…I asked the server if the shrimp were real regular shrimp and not 'salad shrimp'. She assured me they were regular shrimp chopped up a bit.

(Freshly sqeezed Orange Juice - Over Easy Cafe)
Our food didn't take too long and it looked great when it was dropped off. I cut into my shrimp omelette and was shocked to see…..salad shrimp again. I don't understand how an Island on the Gulf of Mexico can offer shrimp for breakfast and give you these tiny things. The server should have known the type of shrimp in the omelette and I was surprised that she was wrong. While I didn't make an issue of it…I kept it and finished the whole thing. It was much better than the one at Lighthouse Café. The potatoes were typical home fries…cubed and premade and kept warm. They were a little dry…but had a nice spice. The toast was fresh and hearty.

(Shrimp, tomato and swiss omelette with hollandaise sauce on the side)
Jeff's breakfast was huge. The eggs were done perfectly (over hard) and the bacon was tasty and not overcooked. The star of the plate was the coconut French toast. It was AWESOME. One bite and I was so mad I didn't order the same thing. The coconut was not overpowering and complimented the French toast perfectly. I'm usually not a French toast fan either…and this was really good.

(Special Breakfast - 2 Eggs, 2 bacon, coconut french toast)
While many reviews I've read for Sanibel in general say it's hard to find a good breakfast place on the Island…Over Easy Café is really good. While my choices were a bit off…the quality of everything else was good and the overall feel left you ready to start the day. If we had known…we would have went here both days for breakfast.

(Over Easy Cafe bill. $27.72 not including tip...kind of higher then the norm, but worth it.)
While it's not as inexpensive as most diners in big cities…it's about average in cost to all other Sanibel restaurants. When you go here…get the coconut French toast. You will thank us!
