FTLToday Quik Bite – Duffy’s Sports Grill - , Coconut Creek, FL

We’ve passed Duffy’s Sports Grill many times. Duffy’s is one of those ‘local’ chain restaurants that didn’t really get us all that excited, so we kept passing it by. A few people kept talking about this place and peaked my interest enough to give them a try. Duffy’s deliveres on what is claims to be…a Sports Grill. The Coconut Creek location is quite large with a bar area and many booths. They even have an outside patio. The interior is deocrated with sports items and there are many TV around the place showing all kinds of things from sports to news to …well you get the point.

We were seated right away and were immediately greeted by our server. She asked if it was our first time and when we said yes…she explained the Happy Hour (2-4-1 drinks ALL day) and their MVP program. It’s a points club where the more you spend, the more points you rack up. After so many points you get free stuff. We ordered 2 beers and signed up for the MVP program hoping we’d get some use out of it.

The menu has your typical sports bar items..burgers, wraps, wings with some full entrée selections like Sirloin steak and Fish and Chips. The menu has something for everyone. On this visit we went for the ‘wings’ (we had a choice, breaded or not…we went ‘not’) with Garlic Parm flavor for the appetizer. The wings came out quite fast and we dug in. These were not the best wings around…but they were not bad. They were just your typical wing. The garlic flavor was strong enough to please, but we were not overly impressed. (I will tell you that we’ve gone back and ordered the fried mushoom appetizer…THE BEST!!) The veggies served with the wings could have been a little more substantial too. They were quite skinny and not many to begin with.

I ordered the 10 oz. Sirloin with Vegetable and Baked Potato. I’m not a steak expert…let me start off by saying that. But…when this plate was put down…it looked quite good. I ordered it ‘meduim’ and when I cut into it…it was cooked perfectly medium. I’ve had worse ‘temperatures’ from J Alexanders and other ‘steak’ places. The steak was quite tender and tasted really good. The asparagus was fresh and not overcooked. The potato was a bit small, but after beer and an appetizer, I didn’t need one the size of my head. Overall…this was a great choice.

Jeff ordered the Fish and Chips. When this plate was set down…WOW. The dinner portion is HUGE. 2 big pieces of fish battered and layed across the plate. While it was a bit on the greasy side…it tasted pretty good. His sides were french fries and hush puppies. The fries were ‘ok’ to me…they had that coating on them to make them stand up to being crispy longer. Not a fan of that. The hugh puppies were not as good as a southern fish fry restaurant, but not bad. Personally, I would get this dish but with different sides. They do allow you to choose different options if you want. Jeff was quite happy with this Fish and Chips order.

Overall, we enjoyed our Duffy’s trip. The service was great, the food was pretty good and the Happy Hour is a great deal. An appetizer, 2 entrees and 4 beers ran $50 without tip. They have some great weekday lunch specials too and I couldn’t believe their prices for those. They have lots of other specials too that can save you quite a bit of cash.
