5 Girls Burgers opened back in November 2014 and they’ve been gaining some buzz around South Florida. The new burger joint in Pompano Beach was featured on WSVN, Channel 7’s Deco Drive which meant we had to head over to give them a try. Some people might groan hearing another burger joint opened in town, but not us here at FTLToday. We think there’s always room for more burgers.
5 Girls Burgers – Love at First Bite serves breakfast, lunch and dinner and offer full service dine in carry out and delivery. They’re located in Pompano Beach in a strip mall on East Atlantic and the free parking can be a bit tight during peak times. We arrived on a Friday evening for dinner around 6PM and got lucky with parking right up front.
They offer patio dining, but we chose a booth inside. The interior is neat and clean with stainless steel and woods with yellow accents and bright red and pink red lipstick kiss outlines.
They refer to their burgers as “Broads”, which is all in fun. You can choose from “Our Broads”, which is their specialty burger selection or you can “Build Your Own Broad”. The burger choices are impressive with beef, lamb, Kobe, pork, chicken, sausage, turkey and black bean. We were impressed by the meat selection and found you could almost have endless combinations and enjoy a new burger on each visit for quite some time. Sides span the steak fry to the tater tot with sweet potato varieties as well. They also have healthier options like salads and the ‘naked’ burger without a bun (served on greens). We didn’t go for the ‘Milk Jugs’ (shakes) since we heard they serve large portions.
Service was friendly and fast, which is what you need in a burger joint. Our meals arrived in maybe 20 minutes and were delivered exactly as ordered and fresh out of the kitchen.
My Big Fat Greek Girlfriend ($10.95 burger, $3.95 combo) – Lamb patty, arugula, red onions, feta cheese, Greek dressing. Jeff chose the brioche bun and went for the steak fries as his side on the combo and a Coke. The burger was cooked to a nice medium and tasted great. We really like lamb burgers and this one didn’t disappoint. The feta was fresh and they give you a generous amount along with the arugula. The portion is large and we both actually ditched the bun half way through to make sure we could finish it. The steak fries were the regular frozen variety, which we liked but felt they cooked them just a little too long.
Build Your Own Broad ($6.95 burger, $.95 cheese, $.95 premium topping, $3.95 combo) – Beef burger, smoked Gouda, lettuce, tomato, raw onion, sautéed mushroom (premium topping) on a brioche bun. I chose the tater tots as my side and my regular Diet Coke (served in bottles). This burger was also cooked to the perfect temperature and was really juicy. We both liked the grilled flavor and the smoked Gouda was the perfect choice. Tots are making a comeback and my new comfort food splurge. These were crisp and not greasy and enjoyable. I’m glad I didn’t go for the “loaded” version as I could hardly finish the plain ones.
We both liked 5 Girls Burgers and would definitely return. We’d save room for the Milk Jugs and might even try the Angel Wings (chicken wings). Breakfast looked like a great deal as well.
