Crusty Cheese Pizza with Pepperoni ($15 + $2 topping) – For years, we’ve read about Annies Pizza of Margate and always wanted to try it. It was described as “New York Style Pizza’ and we can really say they also come close to the taste of Detroit’s own Buddy’s Pizza. Annie’s version was outstanding.
The pizza is made in a square pan and the cheese is layered directly on the dough and they take it all the way to the edge of the pan. Tomato sauce is added on top of the cheese along with the pepperoni.
The end result is a unique crust that makes everyone fight for the edge pieces. The cheese caramelizes at the edges and becomes part of the ‘crust’ (that’s where the name comes from – Crusty Cheese Pizza) and the crunch and taste is one of a kind. This is truly a cheese-lovers pizza and one that we would order again, maybe even next week! It satisfied both Mark’s New York and Detroit Style Pizza craving for sure.
One note: I suggest you avoid the online ordering and personally call in your pizza order. We ordered on-line which clearly gives you a choice between “Pick-Up” or “Delivery”. Simple enough, right? Well not really. When we arrived to pick up the order, their computer system had switched it to delivery. Good thing we got there early, otherwise we would have been chasing the pizza driver all the way home. While waiting, I overheard they’ve recently switched to a new online company and they’re having a few pizza hiccups.
