Bonifay Country Club and restaurant has an $8.99 breakfast buffet that is an outstanding value. Located in The Villages community in north central Florida, just north of Orlando and south of Ocala, it a real “local” breakfast deal.
Dotted throughout The Villages are many golf country clubs, each with a restaurant. The prices are very reasonable, portions are big and happy hour prices are some of the lowest we’ve ever seen. You don’t have to be a member to dine at one of these places and on a recent visit, we visited two. We have a review of the breakfast buffet at the Bonifay County Club and a dinner review of Mallory Hill Country Club.
Bonifay Country Club is not on one of the main roads, but locals know where to find it. Accessible by car or golf cart (The Villages has their own golf cart road system), you will want to get here early to beat the crowd. Most of the country clubs in The Villages have the same layout with booths, tables and a bar along with outside seating that overlooks the gold course. The interior décor or theme is what sets them apart. Bonifay has a beachy, nautical theme with light blue and yellows with some red accents. The exposed wooden beams are painted white giving the place a clean look. We were seated right away and conveniently near the buffet. My Mom ordered a mimosa ($3.00) and the rest of us had waters.
The usual breakfast buffet items are here and they used the chafing dish system. They actually did a very good job keeping the food hot, which is really important for a buffet. Bacon, sausage links, grits, potatoes, French toast, biscuits and sausage gravy are some of the hot food items. They also have an omelet station that moved quickly, but always had a line. They had two guys working that station so even with the lines, it moved quickly. The omelets were huge and fresh. They use the pasteurized eggs that most places use and it worked. My omelet was loaded with cheese and it was a really big omelet too. These guys really know how to quickly make an omelet, so don’t forget their tip jar.
My first round of bacon was a bit too crisp, but round two was perfect. While it was thin, the flavor was there. We also liked the sausage links as they reminded us of the kind we make at home. The biscuits were fresh and hot and I really liked them. They didn’t seem to be the premade biscuits that come in a plastic bag and went really well with the sausage gravy. The fresh melon looked a bit pale so we passed on that. The strawberries were vibrant and red, but I actually forgot to grab one to try. One item to skip would be the mini muffins. They were way too dry and my chocolate chip mini muffin had a strong garlic taste.
The service was fast and pleasant and our drinks were always filled. The value for the buffet can’t be beat and there are enough items to please most with some real stand outs. Plus watch the local paper for a Bonifay Country Club coupon to save a couple more dollars.
