The weather was a bit warm, but the cool breeze on the patio at Casimir French Bistro made for a nice comfortable lunch. Located in Royal Palm Place in Boca Raton, FL, the parking is a bit tricky during peak times, but we got lucky.
The inside of the restaurant is neat and clean with burgundy booths and beige walls decorated with all kinds of things French. They have a bar area as well, but since it was a nice day, we chose to sit on the nice patio (it seems everyone else had the same idea too).
We were sat immediately at a table for two, given menus and drink orders were taken. Looking over the menu, they have all of your French favorites, from quiche to crepes to sandwiches and salads. Sandwiches come with either a side salad or fries and you can also opt for the ‘half sandwich and a cup of soup option’. Today’s soup was ‘Mushroom’ along with the daily offering of French Onion Soup. Our server returned with our sodas and to our surprise, they were cans. Little did we realize that each can would cost us $2.50! First tip – Stay away from the soda, the prices are just too high.
We placed our meal orders and both of us ordered sandwiches and chose the side salad over the fries and traded halves so we could try both. We also each added soup to the order since both sounded so good. It was quite relaxing on the patio, but we did notice that they also allow smoking outside. We only noticed one person smoking, so we were lucky, since both of us really don’t care for the cigarette smoke (sorry smokers). Our soups came out after maybe 15 minutes, with our sandwiches following 5 minutes after. Very quick service here!
French Onion Soup ($7.50). The cheese of choice is gruyere and it looked awesome. Chris really liked it and the cheese was melted perfectly. He said it wasn’t overly salty and very filling, worth every penny.
Mushroom Soup, cup ($3.99). The soup was explained as having no cream with lots of mushrooms in a tasty broth and blended. When it was dropped off, the appearance might not be the more appealing due to the color, but this soup was amazing. It was packed with mushroom flavor and was very smooth. Every spoonful was a blast of flavor for me and I would definitely order this again.
Provence Sandwich ($10.99) – Served on a baguette, herbs de Provence marinated chicken, lettuce, sun dried tomato, garlic aioli. The baguette was fresh and crisp on the outside and slightly toasted. The chicken was fresh, but we both thought it could have used a bit more seasoning. The garlic aioli was bright yellow and did have a slight garlic flavor. The salad consisted of mixed greens with some kind of vinaigrette dressing. The salad was simple, but tasted great. I could have eaten a salad double the size easily.
Parisian Sandwich ($10.99) – Served on a baguette, smoked ham, melted gruyere cheese and butter. This sandwich might sound a bit simple, but we both loved it. It was packed with flavor and the combination of the smoked ham and gruyere cheese was very tasty. The butter really transformed the sandwich and now I want to add it to every sandwich I eat. We both think this was the best sandwich of the two and I would order it again.
The service was quick, friendly and spot on throughout lunch. We were amazed on how fast we got finished and how they managed to keep up the food quality. The prices are not the lowest for lunch, but there are some deals. $10.99 for our sandwich and salad was actually a good value. The soda, as mentioned earlier is not. They have lots of things I’d definitely go back and try, but it will be hard to pass up that Parisian Sandwich.
