“Consistently Good” is best to describe today’s lunch at Cha Baa Thai and Sushi in Fort Lauderdale. It’s been well over five years since I first ate here and their good food and fast service is exactly as it was years ago.
I treated a co-worker (Neila) to lunch today and made sure that we arrived before the busy lunch crowd at noon. The inside is modern and upscale. Cha Baa gets very busy so don’t expect to get one of the nice window booths unless there’s three or more in your party. Additional counter seating is available along the sushi station and an overflow dining room is in the back.
Our meals came with either soup or salad – Neila chose the Miso Soup and I picked the house salad. I don’t think she was impressed with the soup because she politely put it aside after a few spoonfuls. My salad was the much better choice. The lettuce was crisp and generously topped with carrot and ginger.
Pepper Steak Lunch Box ($9.25) came with green pepper and onions, a mini-spring roll, a fried wonton and four pieces of California Roll. Neila also requested eel sauce. Now I heard of fish sauce (not a fan) so I was curious to try. It’s dark like soy sauce, thick and sticky like honey and has a sweet & salty taste. She loved it, but this wasn’t for me. I’ll stick to my wasabi and ginger.
Chicken Basil Lunch Box ($9.25) came with vegetables and basil, and also had the mini-spring roll, a fried wonton and California Roll pieces. In both plates, the wonton was really small. Maybe two bites at most. And wonton was also small as well. The rice was amazing. Perfectly cooked and sticky enough to eat with chopsticks.
By the time lunch was over, there was already a line waiting at the door. Our meal for the two of us, including drinks and tip, was only $26.00. You really can’t beat that for a quick sit-down business lunch. I’ll definitely be back. Cha Baa Thai and Sushi restaurant is located at 6316 Powerline Road, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33309
