You can’t have comfort foot without cheese. And cheese lovers in Coral Springs now have a new comfort food destination called The Cheese Course. A short drive from Fort Lauderdale, The Cheese Course has a seemingly endless assortment of cheese, sandwich and salad combinations make for an interesting and tasty meal. They also have a retail component, where you can buy some tasty selections to take home.
The Cheese Course is located in The Walk shopping district of University Drive in Coral Springs. Their outside patio (pet friendly) makes for a great setting to relax and get your cheese fix. The bistro menu has all kinds of sandwiches, grilled cheeses, soups and salads. For the cheese lovers, there is a rather large Cheese Course section of the menu that all kinds of interesting pairings. Of ‘course’ Jeff had his eye on one of those and even added an extra cheese not originally on the course.
The bistro is a fast casual setup and the line moved quickly. The cashier was quick, friendly and efficient not missing a beat. We paid, got our number to take to the table and our lunch was out in about 15 minutes.
Italy Cheese Course ($15.90, plus $3.95 for adding Gorgonzola) – Robiola (fresh), teleggio (washed rind) and Parmesan reggiano (hard) with roasted red pepper, Tuscan honey and sliced baguette. The presentation was really cool, served on a cheese board. A quick look showed that they forgot the added Gorgonzola and they immediately brought out a huge chunk when we mentioned it.
All the cheese was fresh and the perfect balance of flavors. The honey was a great side at we never thought of using. The cheese was top quality and Jeff raved about the bleu cheese that was brought out. (He mistakenly told the server we were missing bleu rather than Gorgonzola. A VERY good mistake.)
Asiago & Fontana Grilled Cheese with Black Forrest Ham with a Side Salad ($10.48). Served on a fresh baguette, this isn’t your typical grilled cheese. The baguette prevents them grilling the outside, so it appears they melt the cheese open faced. They loaded this with cheese and it was awesome. I added on the ham and it went perfectly. The salad was fresh and the dressing was a mustard vinaigrette. I would definitely order this again.
The prices might seem a bit on the higher side for the cheese plate, but when you look at the selection and quality, it was definitely worth it. You can easily find things on the menu that don’t have cheese, but what’s the fun in that? We definitely had our cheese quota for the week, but it was so good it made it well worth every bite. Who knew we could eat so much cheese in one sitting?
