Greek food is one of our top three favorite cuisines and we’ve really never had a bad meal with maybe one or two exceptions. Unfortunately, now we have another with our recent visit to Greek Wave on Fort Lauderdale Beach. They have fantastic location just steps away for The Elbo Room near A1A and Las Olas so we stopped for a bite BEFORE a night of drinking.
Inside the place is bright and clean, a nice change from some of the other faster food service places. Ordering at the counter seemed a little more difficult than necessary with the counter person being strangely quiet and the owner a few steps away be very loud on his cell phone.
I ordered Tzatziki and a Greek Kebob Souvlaki. The clerk handed me my change, again without saying a word.
I watched the kitchen until I saw my first order ready for pick-up. The Tzatziki looked nice with a splash of olive oil and wedges of pita bread. A single olive rested on top. While the bread appeared toasted, it wasn’t stiff enough to use to scoop up the Greek spread. And the Tzatziki we received was better described as a garlic yogurt spread. Now, I love garlic, but tonight really wanted the flavors of Tzatziki. We also did not find any dill or cucumber so this dish didn’t work for us and we put it aside.
Then, after picking up the Greek Kabob I thought they given me someone else’s order by mistake. There was a large hamburger patty on my tray. The silent cashier finally said “They make it that way so it doesn’t fall off the stick”. Well, since I’m not eating the stick anyway and this portion was huge, I was happy. The outer edges of the patty were seared really nicely, BUT my happiness was short lived because the patty was too thick and cooked too fast making the inside completely raw. Bummer, again and we left hungry.
We’re not crossing them off our list just yet and planning another beach weekend this summer. We’ll revisit them again to order the same items to see if service is any different.
Greek Wave is located at 2941 Las Olas Blvd, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33316.
