Our vote for the most unique Breakfast/Lunch spot goes to Jet Runway Cafe located in the Ft. Lauderdale Executive Airport. This cool stylish cafe is the only one we know that is directly on the airport runway.  Literally every sit in the place has a spectacular view of planes and helicopters taking off and landing.

From the outside, it almost looks like you are walking into an airplane hangar. Once inside it’s a very nice place. There are airplane items worked into the decor that blends in seamlessly.  The restroom doors even have locks that say ‘occupied’ and ‘vacant’ like a real airplane. We noticed that they keep this place very clean. Extra points there!

The unique aspect of Jet Runway Cafe is the view. There are windows all along the side facing the airport. You get to watch the private planes moving around and get really close up. It’s cool and brings out the kid in you.

We were seated immediately and out drink orders were taken. The menu has some interesting items with a few daily specials for the light eater. The large plates consisted of Skirt Steak and Eggs, pancakes, French toast, Omelets to Skillets. Oh, and each comes with their Famous Fried Bread Pudding.

We actually had an old Groupon that expired months ago, but Groupons only have an expiration date on the ‘promotional value’. The actual amount paid for the voucher never expires. Sure we missed the extra bonus, but at least we were not out any money.

We made our decision, ordered and our Breakfast came out fairly quickly. First order was the Banyan – 3 eggs (egg whites for us), bacon, sausage, breakfast potatoes (or grits) and toast. This was a huge plate of food.  The bacon was nice and thick, smoky and was first to be finished. The sausage was links and also very thick.  It was good, but a bit greasy. The potatoes were large chunks of fried potato which was plain, but was different than most places so we liked them.  The last apart of the plate is the Fried Bread Pudding. It is amazing!  It’s like a cross between a donut and French toast. It’s crisp on the outside and moist and soft on the inside. It’s sweet, but in a good way.

The second order was an omelet with bacon, onion and mozzarella cheese. It was made well, fluffy and we also enjoyed it. It was a pick three, meaning you can pick any three items to mix in.

The service was good, with only a few minor quirky things popping up. Overall, Jet Runway Cafe is a really cool spot to grab Breakfast with good food to match. Kids will LOVE IT.
