The new Keg on Sixth promises a diverse crowed, craft beer and comfort food…does it deliver?  We recently went on a mission to find out.  Keg on Sixth is a bit off the beaten path in a sleepy neighborhood near the Ft. Lauderdale International Airport, but your GPS will get you there just fine.

We parked and made our way to the front door and found outside dining in the front and on the side of the building.  There was also a sign that read “We don’t serve women, bring your own” that gave us a laugh.  They were a little busy during the Saturday lunch rush and we found a seat at the bar.

While Keg on Sixth isn’t very large, the space seems adequate…for now.  It’s decorated in steel and woods giving it an industrial feel.  There’s graffiti art work around the place and we hear it is for sale.  It’s a cool look and the vibe is low-key.  Today, the age of the crowd was mixed, but leaning on the over 50 side.

There are a few TV’s to catch the game and there was a group of people playing cards at one of the tables behind us.  They do have live music here, check their website for a schedule.

The bartender was friendly and attentive.  He even overheard us talking about our Hot and Soul review and said he knows the owners.  Small world.  Keg on Sixth advertises 28 beers on tap, but they were tapped out of maybe five. The food menu consists of burgers and other comfort food staples and the pork belly, lettuce and tomato special sounded really good. We were not here for lunch so we stuck to our beers and ordered a side of fresh cut fries.

Our fries came out hot and fresh and they were really good.  They were definitely fresh cut and the side of sour cream and chives was a highlight.  Simple, yeah…but the sour cream and chives made them mimic a baked potato in flavor.  Awesome.

We liked Keg on Sixth and would swing in whenever we are out this way for a beer.  We’d probably try more of the comfort food next time since the fries hit the spot.  This is a good low-key spot for craft beer if Tap 42 and the other Las Olas tap houses are not your style as those can be a little more loud and wild on occasion.
