Time for another breakfast review and we’re wondering where to find Cuban Coffee in Fort Lauderdale and specifically the Margate area.  A few months ago, we noticed the ‘Now Open’ sign at the new Latin Café off State Road 7 and recently decided to stop in for breakfast.  We found friendly, fast service paired with a large menu and good food in this little unassuming shopping plaza. Previously this was the location of 441 Lunchbox.

The inside of the restaurant is updated, yet modest with the kitchen and prep counter taking up half the space on the left when you walk in. With maybe a total of five tables, the seating will fill up quickly at peak times, but they do offer take-out and delivery options as well. There is light wood and tile giving the restaurant a clean look and the coffee equipment and other kitchen tools looked shiny and new. They were working on hanging additional flat screen TV’s when we arrived.

We looked over the menu with all kinds of Latin specialties with a larger than expected breakfast plate lineup. We ordered at the counter and had a seat at one of the tables. The woman working the counter and dining room was quite friendly and brought over waters and silverware as soon as we sat down and breakfast was out in about 10-15 minutes.

#5 Lil Piggy/Puerquito Chiquito – Roast pork, two eggs, home fries, Cuban toast & coffee ($6.50).   I will start off by saying this menu item is a must order. The eggs were fresh and cooked ‘over hard’ as ordered but a little on the well done side. Home fries were seasoned well and were not mush like some places. The roast pork was AWESOME! Packed with flavor, I was happy to see this combo since it gave us a chance to try the roast pork.  The Cuban toast was freshly pressed and buttered and we love that too. This was definitely home cooking. I also liked that they let me swap out the coffee for a can of soda.

#2 – Three egg & cheese omelet with ham, bacon or sausage, home fries, Cuban toast & coffee ($6.50).  The omelet was tasty and filled with lots of white cheese. The bacon wasn’t our favorite and we suggest going for the roast pork option instead. I bet they might even let you swap it out on his combo if you ask nicely. 🙂 Jeff loved the Cuban Coffee and was so happy to see they made it by hand.

Overall, Latin Café was a great spot for breakfast and liked the menu offerings. The service was quick and friendly and you could feel the genuine warmth of the workers. They all wished us well on our way as we left. Lunch sounded like a must try and they do have daily specials that sounded tasty. Please note that Latin Cafe is closed on Sunday.

That looks so good! I wish they had restaurants like that near us.
