How lucky were we to stumble upon Le Macaron – French Pastries on their opening day in The Promenade at Coconut Creek on Friday. Walking by, you can’t help but stop in and look around. The pink, white and black decor is minimal, but sharp looking and helps showcase the real art inside – the macarons and beautiful chocolates.
Standing in line while trying to decide what to order, we overheard the couple in-line ahead of us ask if they had any sugar free macarons. “Oh, no, no” replied the clerk behind the counter replied with a smile and a chuckle “we’re French. Everything has sugar.”
The French macaron is a sweet meringue-based confection with icing, sugar and all different favors. The small pastry is colorful and unique and Le Macaron has the display down to an art. We chose their ‘box of six option’ ($13.80) with all different flavors – Coconut, Rose, Lavender, chocolate-ginger, basil white chocolate and Colombian coffee.
These were amazing! They had much more than we expected with the right amount of sweetness. Our favorites of the bunch were the coconut and basil because of their strong flavors.
The chocolates are really a work of art and you almost don’t want to eat them they look so nice. It was hard to decide, but we narrowed it down to six choices – coconut, key lime, blueberry, strawberry cheesecake, raspberry cheesecake and Cuban coffee. The outer chocolate shell was delicate, but thick enough to stand on its own. Each filling was packed with flavor with either a creamy center, chocolate truffle-like or mixed. These are definitely a conversation piece and taste great.
Le Macaron also has a French gelato section that is next on our list for another visit. They also have coffees, teas and assorted pastries as well. We’re sure that Le Macaron will do well here and will be even more popular once the Silverspot movie theater opens later this year.
