Luckies Café on Atlantic Blvd in Margate serves breakfast and lunch 7 days a week and we recently stopped in for Breakfast.  We liked it a lot so I also stopped in a few days after and tried a take-out lunch order.  Our restaurant review will cover two meals, so we hope you are hungry!

We arrived a bit early for breakfast and might have been their first customers today.  The restaurant isn’t that large, maybe a dozen tables at most.  The place looked clean with red and white checkered tablecloths which gave it a unique feel, almost more like a diner.  Our server was quick to great us and got our drink orders while we looked over the menu and the specials board.

The menu covers all the typical breakfast favorites from eggs, omelets, pancakes and French toast. I ordered off of the regular menu and Jeff went the ‘specials’ route.  The orders came out quick, maybe 10 minutes as the restaurant started to fill up.

I ordered the two eggs over medium with ham steak and hash browns ($7.99).  Wow.  This was a lot of food!  The ham steak was one of the biggest portions we’ve seen and was very thick and lean.  We also liked that it was not too salty and had a bit of sweetness to it.  The eggs were cooked perfectly to order and the hash browns were crisp on the outside and tender on the inside.  There was so much food I couldn’t even finish everything.

Jeff ordered the Greek breakfast special ($7.99) – two eggs over medium, gyro meat, home fries and pita with tzatziki sauce.  Again, Wow.  The portion size was huge!  Immediately, we noticed that the gyro meat was thick and appeared to be from a vertical broiler and not that pre-sliced that some other diners use.  It was slightly charred on the outside adding to the complex flavor.  Jeff was quite happy.

The tzatziki sauce had to be house made, it tasted so fresh and actually rivals some of the Greek restaurants we’ve been to.  Home fries were seasoned very well and not overcooked and the eggs were cooked to an over medium as requested.  We were very impressed with this dish.

Service was spot on and attentive.  They even have a ‘punch card’ program that gives you a free meal after 9 breakfast or lunches.

Now onto the lunch review-

Since the lunch menu looked good, at Luckies Café in Margate, I ordered some take out a few days after our breakfast visit.  Again, they were not super busy when I got there so I was able to get my order in before the lunch rush.  The food didn’t take too long and the car ride home was maybe about 10-15 minutes.  They pack the carry out orders in Styrofoam clamshell containers that seemed to do an ‘ok’ job at keeping things warm.

The Cuban Panini ($7.99) – Pork, mayo, mustard, pickles, ham and Swiss cheese pressed Panini style.  The sandwich was a lot bigger than expected and looked really good.  The meat in the sandwich was a bit on the salty side, but they did give a generous portion.  The cheese was very creamy and still melted by the time I got home.  The crinkle fries on the side were crisp and fresh and I’m always a sucker for good crinkle fries.

I also ordered a side of onion rings ($2.99) just to try a few.  They were still very hot when I got home and I had to let them cool a bit.  While they were just your regular frozen variety, they definitely did hit the spot. Good thing I took the photos from the car, because the onion rings didn’t make it the whole ride home.  Just the empty box.
