We’ve been hearing a lot about the ‘New’ Miami Subs Grill and I’ve also heard that they are serving breakfast. Recently, I was near the location on Oakland Park Blvd. in Fort Lauderdale and wanted to see the changes and try the new breakfast.
They’ve done some work to the outside to make it look a bit more modern and ‘squared’ off. I tried to take a picture, but the sun wasn’t cooperating today.
Inside there is a definite improvement. The whole layout is a bit different and has been totally renovated. It’s modern and sleek with a lot of tile work throughout. There are spots to just hang out in the back of the restaurant and there are also a few TVs at the front that were on news stations. There is a lot of seating at this restaurant and this morning there were only two other tables occupied.
The breakfast menu is functional and has a few different options (you can even order off of the regular menu as well). There are sandwiches (Kaiser, sub and gyro) that give you the egg, meat and cheese fix and they also have pancakes and French toast sticks. I went for the Kaiser sandwich with hash browns and a soda ($4.79). The sandwiches come with your choice of ham, sausage, bacon or steak. I went for the bacon of course. Ordering was quick and my food was ready to pick up at the counter in about 10 minutes.
I’m going to try and break down the review a bit differently than normal. After all, this is your typical fast-casual spot, so I will hit the main points to speed things along.
They advertise Free WiFi on the front door and let me say that the signal is strong and very FAST! I couldn’t believe how fast this WiFi was.
They have that new fancy Coke machine that lets you choose tons of flavor options. I think every fast food restaurant that offers Coke products should have this machine. I went for my usually Diet Coke Raspberry and it was delicious.
The food here at the New Miami Subs is still cooked to order. Sure it takes a few more minutes than some of the other places around, but it’s nice to get freshly made food that has not been under the warming lamp. The Kaiser sandwich was good, but the bacon was a bit too thin, making me wish I had gone for the sausage or steak. I liked the fluffy eggs and melted cheese and would order it again (with different meat). The hash browns were thin and freshly fried, but I found them a bit too greasy. I’d probably skip them on a future visit or order the Nathans Fries.
Overall it’s a definite improvement for the New Miami Subs Grill. The menu looks the same as it did through the years and that’s not a bad thing. I always liked the choices here and you can always find something a bit different here. While it might not be the best breakfast around, it was reasonably priced and the WiFi was the best I’ve seen. I did like the option to order off of the lunch menu during breakfast hours because you never know when you’d get that gyro craving.
