While running errands, I decided to stop for lunch at PDQ Chicken in Fort Lauderdale – Oakland Park. This new ‘fast casual’ restaurant chain is really making a push into South Florida lately, so it was time to give them a try. Located on Federal Highway, near Oakland Park Blvd, the outside of the building is quite nice. The building was built from the ground up and hard to miss from the road. One thing to note is that PDQ Chicken shares the parking lot with ABC Liquor, so beware of the spots that say “ABC Liquor Parking Only”.
I was a little early so there was no line, awesome! The menu isn’t overly complicated and chicken comes grilled or fried and only in ‘tenders’. The have salad, sandwich and platter options, which covers most tastes. Ordering was smooth and the woman taking my order was a pro, walking me through the options of my salad. “Would you like the salad dressing on the side?” she asked. “Why yes I would…thanks for asking!” I replied. I like when you are asked about these options when you order, especially when you are a first-timer. They take your name and call you over the loud speaker when it’s ready to pick up.
The inside of the restaurant is very nice and unique. Lots of cool visuals which are simple, but add character. You can tell its a step up from fast food. They have a Coke Freestyle Machine too and I love there!
On the wall you see their motto – ‘People Dedicated to Quality’. Ahhh…that’s what PDQ means in the restaurant name. But, I heard my name over the loud speader and my food was ready in no time. I’m thinking the name also means ‘Pretty Darn Quick’. 🙂
Crispy Chicken Salad meal ($8.29) – Crispy chicken tenders served over mixed greens, cucumber, tomato, and mixed cheese served with Honey Mustard Dressing. The salad meal includes a soda and I picked the raspberry coke. The chicken tenders were amazing! The chicken was so fresh you swore it was home made. The coating is very light in texture and flavor, which works very well. The salad was fresh and the honey mustard was the perfect dressing to add and I liked having it on the side. I was really impressed in the taste and quality and totally satisfied.
PDQ Chicken is a great spot to grab a quick lunch that is friendly to your wallet and still makes you think you are eating healthy. You can lighten it up with grilled chicken, but what fun is that? I skipped the fries on this visit, which was hard to do, but I’m glad I tried the salad.
PDQ Chicken is located at 3359 North Federal Hwy Oakland Park, FL 33306.
**We hear a new PDQ Chicken location is being planned for Coral Springs, FL on the corner of State Rd 7 and Sample Rd.
