Red Ginger Asian Bistro is one of the many Coral Springs restaurants that we’ve drive past many times without even realizing it was there.  Just west of the University & Sample intersection at 9710 West Sample Road, the restaurant is located in a strip shopping plaza and appears quite plain from the outside. Stepping inside to the host stand, there’s a small bar/lounge to the left and main dining room is to the right with the sushi counter in the back. We were sat immediately – mostly because it was still early at 6:00pm.

As always, we start any Asian restaurant with the Wonton soup ($2.50 cup) and were pleasantly surprised that it wasn’t too salty. We also ordered an appetizer of six chicken wings ($5.00) solely because the menu mentioned a secret recipe of Asian herbs. I was mildly satisfied, but they were a little too greasy and a little over cooked for my liking. I guess I expected an Asian Colonel Sanders in the kitchen when I read secret recipe. The main course of General’s Chicken ($13.50) was a generous helping of large chicken bits that were the spiciest we’ve had in a long time.

The other dish was Orange Peel Beef ($14.00).  Before leaving the house, I checked out the menu online and the orange peel description really caught my eye. I was worried that it would be just another fast food orange flavor, but I was wrong.  I was very impressed with the strong orange peel flavor. The only issue was because the peel strips were dried, a small number of them were very chewy and inedible.

The best part of both plates was easily the pickled salad of cucumber, carrots, scallions and daikon radish that came with both meals. I should have asked if this came as a separate side dish. We can eat a lot but these portions were large enough to take half home with us. We didn’t have room for dessert but next time we’re definitely trying the tempura Cheesecake ($8.50). The restrooms were very clean and updated. We’ll definitely be back to Red Ginger Asian Bistro.
