A well earned and much needed mini-weekend at Fort Lauderdale Beach was planned for this weekend. We were was lucky enough to have some Marriott Rewards Points banked and was shocked to find a night at the Ritz-Carlton Hotlel & Resort was available.  ‘Stay-cations’ are fun and this one was too good to pass up.

The Ritz-Carlton Resort is located right on A1A in Fort Lauderdale Beach, next to the Beach Place Entertainment Complex.  While it’s technically across the street from the beach, there is an unobstructed view of the Atlantic Ocean and it’s beautiful.  Parking is strictly valeted here, as are many of the beach’s upscale resorts.  At $35 a night, it’s a bit steep in price for us, but we never needed the car until checkout.

The lobby is really nice with beige and light browns with marble floors.  We think the lobby is very comfortable and it’s usually quiet.  Via Luna bar is near the front entrance and the Wine Room offers a more private space.  We didn’t dine Via Luna, but hear the breakfast buffet in the mornings is a great splurge.

Check-in is normally at 4PM, but we always try to check-in early in case the room is ready.  We arrived at the Front Desk at 2PM and the staff was genuinely friendly and efficient.  Unfortunately, our room was not quite ready so they checked our bags and we hung out at the pool for about an hour.

The pool area is a bit smaller than some of the other upscale hotels in the area, but we found it very nicely appointed.  Plenty of chairs around the and the recreation deck was spotless and very inviting.  The view of the ocean and beach was amazing up here and they also have a bar with food service.

We walked by the gym and poked our head in.  Nice equipment and very clean with complimentary bottles of water and ear buds.

We received a text that our room was ready after about an hour and I picked up the keys and we headed up.  I had used points to book the room, but paid an additional $100 for an Ocean Front View room, so I was curious to see what that got us.  We were on the 11th floor and after a few turns off of the elevator, we were in a ‘separated’ area of the hall.  Hmmmm.  This is ALWAYS a good sign when we’ve gotten upgrades.  We found our room, 1108 and opened the door.  WOW!

The front door opened into a hallway of sorts and it looked huge.  You first pass the bathroom area, which was nicely appointed.  A large, deep soaking tub was positioned so that you could almost see out into the ocean and the shower stall was large and had the best water pressure and shower heads.  Lots of room in this bathroom allowed for a TV and a phone by the toilet.

The TV was an HD flat screen with lots of channels and the coolest feature was the electronic bedside control.  You could turn any light off in the room with the touch of a button.  You could control almost any electronic device with this thing, even the A/C.

This was a ‘Corner Suite’ and there was a wrap around balcony.  Crazy nice room for sure.  The main part of the room was well kept and the bed was very comfortable.  The mini-bar was well stocked, but the prices were way to high to even think about drinking anything.  They had chocolates on the bed waiting for us and also did a second turn-down service later that night.

The balcony was amazing and the view was just about as good as it gets.   The sliding glass door opened directly to the beach and the balcony ran along the other length of the hotel room offering Intracoastal Waterway and city views.  They even had windows on all sides of the room too, letting in lots of light and allowing for water views from almost everywhere

The service at the Ritz-Carlton Resort, Fort Lauderdale Beach was amazing and probably charts up to the best we’ve had in a hotel.  The AAA Five Diamond Award surely holds up here and we wish we could afford to stay in Ritz-Carlton Hotels more often.  We definitely recommend this property to anyone wanting to splurge a bit, with one warning.  You might spoil yourself and find it hard to come back to reality.
