We’ve heard many good things about the Royal Pig Pub & Kitchen in Downtown Ft. Lauderdale and we finally made it there. While crossing the street, we noticed some tables outside in the front facing Las Olas Blvd and also an outside bar to the side of the building with patio seating. It was hot today, so it’s definitely a day to enjoy cool A/C.
When we walked through the front door, we were struck with a cool amazement at the unique ceiling over the bar that runs almost the whole length of the place. It’s an archway with a brick façade and flat screen TV’s embedded making for one of the coolest looking bars we have been to in a while. I’m hoping the pictures do this design element justice.
The bar is quite large and is in the middle of the space with lots of seating. There is also some table seating along the side walls and some tables at the front. We found two spots at the corner and were greeted quickly by the bartender. He was busy and still managed to touch base and give us a menu. We ordered a few beers first and I asked for the strongest beer on tap. He nodded and brought back the biggest goblet looking glass I’ve seen. I almost needed two hands to raise this glass, but I managed it well. The beer choice of the bartender was spot on. Jeff ordered a beer flight that contained four types of beers that he chose himself.
This was actually our second stop on what turned out to be a mini pub crawl so we decided to get a snack too. The menu has some great looking sandwiches and burgers with a few main dishes that are served after 5 PM only. We almost went for the Chicken Waffle Muffuletta, but decided on a large order of organic fries. The appetizers were heavy on the comfort food which means we will be going back to try more of the food. The fries came out fast and were hat, crisp and fresh. They actually tasted like potato. They had the perfect sprinkling of salt and herbs that went really well with our beer.
Royal Pig Pub & Kitchen is a relaxing spot to hang out, drink and get some food that looks to be kicked up a notch. We could easily make this place a regular stop when we are downtown. The service was great as well and some of the friendliest staff we’ve seen on Las Olas.
