Shawn & Nick’s Courtyard Café is located in the heart of Wilton Manors on Wilton Drive and the brightly painted shopping plaza is impossible to miss. But you won’t see their “courtyard” from the main road. For that, you need to drive behind the building and use their rear entrance.
Metered parking is strictly enforced all along Wilton Drive, but the locals know that just behind the building is the free parking lot. It was early enough this morning to find plenty of parking.
The back courtyard is the place to be seen and socialize, especially when dining with your four-legged friends. Cooled by fans and shaded by a canopy, the rear patio was very pleasant this morning with a relaxing Key West feel. Sitting back in the courtyard patio gives you a good vantage point to watch people come and go. With the area having a high concentration of bars along Wilton Drive, you can play the “just-got-up-or-still-up” game. Courtyard Café also has a larger interior dining room which is nicer during the warmer months. Sorry Snoopy, No Dogs Allowed inside.
I asked our waiter JJ my usual “What’s Good?” and he replied that the “Prime Rib breakfast special really looked good”. I love prime rib, so that was an easy recommendation. Mark picked his usual eggs and ham.
Daily Special – Prime Rib and Eggs ($8.95) – While this was a nice portion size, but it kinda reminded me of leftovers. You know when you take home leftovers of a medium cooked steak and re-heat it the following day? It didn’t quite taste like first run – but then as Mark told me, “what do you expect for $8.95”. He’s right. Breakfast came with tater tots which I LOVED. The eggs were also good, cooked over-medium.
The biscuit was crispy, but not burned.
Two Eggs and Ham ($6.45) –Immediately, I realized, Mark had the better dish of the morning. The crinkle-cut French fries looked so good and were calling my name. The eggs and toast looked great, but it was the ham steak that was the star of his plate. It was a generous portion with a great smoky flavor and wasn’t too salty. I got one little taste and he didn’t pick up on the clue that I wanted more. Really??? Why did you think I was giving you tater-tots.
The breakfast total was $20 without tip, which is what we expect to pay in the area. We’ve never really had a bad meal here, but next time I’m getting the French fries. Oh yeah and Courtyard Café is very straight-friendly. We’ll definitely be back to try some of their specials including:
- Monday Night Burger Madness – 26 different burgers with free soda or tea.
- Two for Tuesdays – Two dinners and one appetizer for $20
- Wednesday Night – Two-for-One menu
