We finally made it to Tap 42 in Fort Lauderdale. I can’t believe it’s taken us this long to get to a Tap House…but we made it. What a cool great place.
We arrived on a Saturday just as lunch was starting up. They were offering a brunch and light lunch menu when we arrived, with a larger menu at 3PM, so we decided to grab a few beers and a snack. In addition to the inside of the place, they do have a few outside dining options as you walk up. One is more of a patio and covered, the other is more tables with some umbrellas. We wanted to belly up to the bar, so we went right in and sat down for a good seat.
The inside is dimly lit, but not too dark and the walls are covered in wood. The taps are all lined up behind the bar and they have around 50 taps to choose from with some standard and some rotating. They seem to keep the tap menu current as we saw them changing the menus out a few times while we were there. Our bartender greeted us right away and was really friendly and allowed us to taste any draught we were interested before we committed to ordering it. Look closely at the taps – yes, that’s hundreds of pennies that look like tile from a distance.
Just so you get a feel for the variety here, I’m going to give you the list of beers we drank. They also have ‘beer flights’ but we got the full sized versions because we were thirsty. Here is the list – Miami Brewing Co. Coconut Blond, Thomas Creek Castaway Orange Chocolate IPA, Funky Buddha Fire in the Hole Raspberry Habanero (our FAVORITE) and the Southern Tier Crème Brulee. All great choices.
The place filled up fast and just something to note…when it gets busy, the inside gets very loud. Yeah, it is a bar. If you want a more ‘quieter’ setting, you might want to try hanging outside. But, after a few beers, you don’t even notice the loudness. Our bartenders and staff were very attentive and always checked on us. We got a little hungry so we decided to get a basket of crispy fries.
The fries came out quick and it was a nice sized pile and we dug in. These were GOOD fries! Crisp, hot and sprinkled with seasoning and we devoured the basket in no time. I think we even had to fight for the last few and that never happens.
Tap 42 is another great tap house that we’ll definitely visit again. Next visit we will be trying more of the food as well…some of the burgers looked really good as they went by. They also have Happy Hour Monday-Friday from 4-7PM which takes $3 off anything behind the bar…that’s a great deal.
