Thai Delight Restaurant seems not just a local Deerfield Beach favorite, but also a South Florida favorite as well.  Thai Delight received the #1 spot on the 2014 Local10’s ‘Best Thai Restaurant’ list in their contest supported by viewer’s votes.  We recently stopped in for lunch and decided to see if they would indeed live up to that top honor.

Thai Delight Restaurant is located in the far back corner of the TigerDirect plaza on Hillsboro Blvd.  Inside is a modest Mom ‘n Pop Thai restaurant that was quite busy.  The décor is simple with plenty of booth and table seating.  Sure, they could use a bit of an update on things, but we can always forgive dated décor if the food and service is good.  We were seated immediately at a table in the far back corner (hey, sensing a pattern here) of the restaurant and drink orders promptly taken.

The lunch menu contains smaller portions of the popular menu items and all are served with soup and fried rice or white rice.  The list is quite long and we are sure that everyone’s favorite Thai dish is represented here.  Pad Thai, curry, basil and garlic/ginger are some of the highlights.  There was a large table that seemed to kind of throw service off a bit and there was a slightly longer than expected delay to place our order.  Once the kitchen caught up, the orders started coming out quickly.

Cup of Thai Chicken Soup (included with lunch special).  They sure don’t have a temperature issue here as the soup was extremely hot.  The clear broth was slightly sweet which was a nice surprise.  It was a much different flavor than expected and we felt it worked well.  The soup also had some small pieces of white meat chicken, rice noodles and scallions which gave some depth.  Overall, a good starter.

Basil Chicken ($8.95) – Sautéed with your choice of meat, onion, bell pepper, fresh basil, fresh chili and broccoli in a basil sauce.  I chose the chicken which was thinly sliced white meat.  The vegetables were still a little crisp and very fresh which went perfectly with the fresh vibrant basil flavor.  There were quite a few basil leaves taking the basil flavor even further.  There was a slight spiciness to the sauce, but it was very subtle.  I picked the fried rice option which was lighter than expected without much soy sauce used.  This was perfect as you don’t want it to get in the way of the great basil flavor on the main dish.

Panang Curry ($9.95) – Your choice of meat with fresh green beans, bell peppers, basil and lime leaves cooked in coconut milk and panang curry paste, with white rice. The waiter asked how “hot” we wanted the dish and we learned from a previous review to never order the “hottest” and requested “medium hot” today, which ended up perfect for our taste. The coconut curry had tons of flavor and was very saucy and not watery. It was so good, I used the left over rice to get every last spoonful of curry in the bowl.

Service did start slow, but that was only because of the large party ahead of us that caused things to back up in the kitchen.  Not the restaurants fault and they did their best to get things turned around and back on track.  Our drinks did stay full and they did speed along for the reminder of our lunch.  We liked the food and found it fresh and flavorful with nice sized portions and have to say they are on our top 10 list of favorite Thai restaurants
