Wayback Burgers in Coconut Creek has held its ‘ground’ through the Fort Lauderdale area burger restaurant explosion over the past few years.  Our recent lunch visit left us with a great taste in our mouth and evoked some great memories of burger joints ‘back in the day’ (too many days to count).

Driving along State Road 7, you might miss Wayback Burgers as they are tucked back from the main road in a small strip mall. They share the mall with two other popular restaurants and all three do a very solid business. Parking is free and can be a bit busy, but we’ve never had issues finding a spot.

The dining area indise of Wayback Burgers has plenty of seats and the place is very clean. They follow the Wayback theme with some nostalgia pieces on the walls, but don’t overdo it. The menu is larger than some other burger joints with chicken, salads and fish options as well as numerous burgers. They offer beer and wine along with milk shakes for those designated drivers.

Ordering was quick at the front counter and the food was delivered to our table in about 15 minutes.

‘Cheesy’ Burger ($6.09) – This burger is a cheese lover’s dream. Two burger patties with four slices of American Cheese. Yup, four slices of cheese! They also invert the bun and grill it, almost making it a nod to the patty melt. The burger was seasoned well and reminded us of a homemade burger Mom would make.

Bacon Double Cheese burger (6.99) combo ($2.99) with fries and a soda – You can tell a good burger when you can see all the ingredients without having to remove the bun.  This burger is one of them.  A nice red tomato slice, fresh crispy green lettuce, melted yellow cheese and a slice of bacon peeking out from under the burger patty.  Zero complaints with this order.

Regular Chocolate Shake ($4.09) – The shake is brought out in the metal cup they use to mix it in which is pretty cool. The portion was larger than expected and this was an awesome shake. Thick and loaded with creamy chocolate, the brain freeze was a minor side effect and it was worth every bit of the pain.

Wayback Burgers in Coconut Creek is a great place to get your burger fix. The shakes and fries are a sure bet and the overall experience throws you back (Wayback) to those days as a kid.  And they have a GREAT lunch special M-F 11am-4pm for a burger, fries and drink for $6.99.
